Its roof automatically opens or closes in 13 seconds.

TOKYO, Japan - Mazda Motor Corp. on May 20 introduced to the market a new midsize car, the Mazda Atenza, featuring low fuel consumption and emissions. The Mazda Atenza went on sale in two models -- a five-door ''SPORT'' model, which is priced between 2 million yen and 2.3 million yen, and a four-door ''SEDAN'' model priced between 1.8 million yen and 2.36 million yen. The new model is available with a newly developed 2300-cc four-cylinder DOHC engine or a newly developed 2000-cc four-cylinder engine.

TOKYO, Japan - Nissan Motor Co. on Jan. 30 begins marketing in Japan its new generation of Primera passenger cars. The new Primera Wagon (R) and Sedan (L) come with either 2000 cc or 2500 cc engines and feature conventional four-speed automatic transmission, or continuously variable transmission, including one which also enables manual transmission-use driving.

MMC's new Lancer Evolution to go on sale

TOKYO, Japan - Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) said Jan. 26 it will start selling a new model of its Lancer Evolution sports sedan on Feb. 3. The 2000 cc Lancer Evolution VII (shown in the photo) features a newly developed Active Center Differential (ACD), which ''brings better handling response and traction,'' MMC said. ''Integrated control of the ACD and the Active Yaw Control handling enhancement systems bring superior acceleration and handling characteristics,'' it said. The GSR type will cost 2,998,000 yen and the RS type 2,518,000 yen.
