Fuji Heavy launches new minivan with 2000 cc engine

TOKYO, Japan - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., the maker of Subaru cars, on June 17 released a new minivan, called Subaru Exiga (photo), with an engine displacement of 2000 cc. The new model has a seating capacity of seven people and is priced at 1,995,000 to 2,782,500 yen, the company said.

Nissan debuts British-made midsize crossover SUV Dualis in Japan

TOKYO, Japan - Nissan Motor Co. Chief Executive Officer Toshiyuki Shiga stands beside his company's midsize crossover sport utility vehicle Dualis at a press conference in Tokyo on May 23. The Dualis, manufactured at Nissan's Sunderland plant in Britain, is based on the Qashqai that made its debut first in Europe in February 2007 and is about the size of a compact hatchback, thus featuring the ''agility and sportiness expected of a hatchback,'' Nissan said. The vehicle, equipped with a 2000 cc engine, is priced from 1,953,000 yen to 2,430,750 yen.

Volkswagen to release convertible model of New Beetle

NAGOYA, Japan - Volkswagen Group Japan K.K. said June 3 it will release the New Beetle Cabriolet (in handout photo), the convertible version of the New Beetle passenger car, for 3.33 million yen on June 14. The vehicle has a steering wheel on the right side and is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and has an engine displacement of 2000 cc. Its roof automatically opens or closes in 13 seconds.

Mazda puts new Mazda Atenza midsize car on market

TOKYO, Japan - Mazda Motor Corp. on May 20 introduced to the market a new midsize car, the Mazda Atenza, featuring low fuel consumption and emissions. The Mazda Atenza went on sale in two models -- a five-door ''SPORT'' model, which is priced between 2 million yen and 2.3 million yen, and a four-door ''SEDAN'' model priced between 1.8 million yen and 2.36 million yen. The new model is available with a newly developed 2300-cc four-cylinder DOHC engine or a newly developed 2000-cc four-cylinder engine.

He said a team of engineers led by Yoshimasa Hayashi, professor of engineering at Tokai University, has succeeded in developing a 4000 cc sports car engine and a 2000 cc passenger car engine that are quite fuel efficient.

Nissan launches remodeled Primera on domestic market

TOKYO, Japan - Nissan Motor Co. on Jan. 30 begins marketing in Japan its new generation of Primera passenger cars. The new Primera Wagon (R) and Sedan (L) come with either 2000 cc or 2500 cc engines and feature conventional four-speed automatic transmission, or continuously variable transmission, including one which also enables manual transmission-use driving.

MMC's new Lancer Evolution to go on sale

TOKYO, Japan - Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) said Jan. 26 it will start selling a new model of its Lancer Evolution sports sedan on Feb. 3. The 2000 cc Lancer Evolution VII (shown in the photo) features a newly developed Active Center Differential (ACD), which ''brings better handling response and traction,'' MMC said. ''Integrated control of the ACD and the Active Yaw Control handling enhancement systems bring superior acceleration and handling characteristics,'' it said. The GSR type will cost 2,998,000 yen and the RS type 2,518,000 yen.
